    Santa Monica Pier

    A bustling boardwalk whose huge Ferris Wheel is the city's icon. The long pier has an old-fashioned amusement park, with reasonable by-the-ride pricing, including a small roller coaster. The Pier has restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, and some street performers. At almost all hours you'll find at least a few people fishing as well. The Santa Monica Pier has terrific coastline views of Malibu and the Southbay. The Pier is within easy walking distance to the Promenade.

The Promenade is located only three blocks from the beach, the Promenade is one of L.A.'s most popular places to "hang out" for people of all ages.

    A good place to experience the natural habitat of the Valley Girl. While it is primarily a hangout and a melting pot for all the valley's youth, the Galleria also houses a popular multiplex (recently transformed into an ArcLight featuring over 21 theatres where drinks are allowed), a furniture store, a few clothing stores, and several restaurants. A perfect spot to grab dinner and a movie if you're in the area.

Paul Getty Museum, the Getty Center presents the museum's collection of Western art from the Middle Ages to the present, against a backdrop of dramatic architecture and tranquil gardens. Located at the top of the Santa Monica Mountains, there is a spectacular view of the L.A. basin and the Pacific Ocean. This is unquestionably one of the finest museums in the US. (The other museum location, the Getty Villa in Pacific Palisades, covers the arts and cultures of ancient Greece, Rome, and Etruria.)

  • The Getty Center (aka J. Paul Getty Museum)

    Paul Getty Museum), 1200 Getty Center Drive. Well worth a visit. Entrance is free though you will pay $15 for parking or is served by Metro Bus 761. Located at the top of the Santa Monica mountains, you have a spectacular view of both the L.A. basin, the Pacific Ocean, as well as the beautiful buildings and the rose gardens. They also have a very extensive arts collection, should that interest you. This is widely regarded as the finest museum in the USA, matched only by the National Gallery of Art in DC. The old museum, J. Paul Getty Villa [1], in Pacific Palisades, is also worth a visit.
