Miller and his wife Diane were among the primary benefactors of the restoration project. The State of California also provided $1.5 million in funding. Singer Dianne Reeves headlined the opening performance following the restoration on January 8, 2005. In 2011, newly hired Executive Director Michael Madden announced that the theater would undertake austerity measures and restructuring aimed at retiring past debt and provide cost-effective measures for future operations. He indicated that these measures would include better utilization of the facility along with greater input and increased donations from the community..Directors warned the public again in November 2011 that budget problems could cause the theater to cease operation by January 2012 if financial obligations were not met.
