    The Main Street Cultural District (MSCD) is a downtown Ames community and economic development group and its mission is to advance and promote downtown Ames as the destination district in the heart of the community. MSCD is a certified Main Street Community and follows the four point economic approach prescribed by the National Trust for Historic Preservation. MSCD is an investor based organization, open to anyone in the community that would like to support its development and enjoy its benefits.

Stop in and Marcus, the proprietor, will happily serve guests a cup of tea and chat for a while.

    The oldest building on campus, the Farm House was the center of life for the model farm that was the entirety of the university during its founding years. Today it is operated as a historical museum with period furnishings. Free, donations accepted.

    Daily 9AM-4:30PM; extended hours in summer. $8 adults, $7 seniors, $4 children. Originally created to provide staff and students of the university a place to relax and enjoy nature, this is a large botanical garden with indoor and outdoor displays. Among the highlights are a spectacular rose garden, a conservatory, and a popular butterfly garden.
